    DECEMBER 2020 NEWSLETTER

For several years, Bread of Compassion has supported an elementary school in one of the most impoverished cities in Haiti called Cite Soleil. We rejoice that in the face of extreme challenges this year, the school continues to educate the children and is giving them hope and a future in Christ. Find out more about our outreach in Haiti in our December newsletter.

A LETTER FROM HAITI: CITE SOLEIL

WALTER HENRY DE COMBAT SCHOOL OF HAITI

The Walter Henry De Comat School is located in Cite Soleil, Haiti. Cite Soleil is one of the poorest slums in the Western Hemisphere built on the site of a garbage dump for the city of Port Au Prince.

The school was founded in 1984 with the mission to provide a basic foundation for learning that equips students to function and thrive in modern society.

Living in Cite Soleil is very difficult. Most of the homes are small shanty shacks made of corrugated steel. Open sewers run down each street and there is little access to clean water.

Cite Soleil has over 400,000 residents with only two state sponsored schools that are have under 224 students. The Walter Henry De Combat School was started in a local church and has grown to over 425 students. The school staff consists of 34 teachers and staff members. The student population is comprised of 115 Kindergarten children, 280 Elementary children and 29 Middle School children.

Many of the students cannot afford tuition, books, lunch or uniforms. Bread of Compassion is partnering with this school to sponsor students so they could complete their education and receive the training they need to acquire a good job rising above the cycle of poverty.

Become A Student Sponsor - For a little as $25.00 a month, you can sponsor a student and give them the opportunity to thrive and become a productive member of the community. Bread of Compassion uses 100% of all funds donated to students to support them during their education. As a sponsor, you will receive a brief description of your student, a picture, and you will receive occasional updates on their progress.
